If this is declared an Unfair Labor Practice strike, there is a slim chance that members who apply for unemployment and go through the appeal process during the strike might qualify for unemployment benefits. If you want to appeal your denial of Unemployment Insurance, the Union suggests the following:
Be sure your appeal is filed within 30 days of the denial (you should have received a "determination letter").
Draft a short letter explaining that you are appealing the decision, and request a hearing.
Mail your appeal to the address or fax number on your determination letter or to the following:
TeleCenter Appeals
P.O. Box 19018
Olympia, WA 98507-001
Fax: 800-301-1795
* Be sure to also request a copy of your file.
* Include your name, address, and social security number, and your signature in the letter.
* If you decided to appeal, you need to continue to file your claim each week. If you win at your hearing, you will receive benefits for the weeks you filed a claim. However, if you lose, you will need to pay these benefits back to the State.
* If you continue to file, be sure that you also comply with the job seeking requirements which means that you must keep a record of all the job contacts you made each week. You must contact at least 3 different potential employers each week about work opportunities.
* Keep a copy of what you send.

I disagree with the decision to deny me unemployment benefits. I request a hearing, and I also request a copy of my file. One of the reasons I am appealing is because I am not on "strike" as that term is used in RCW 50.20.090(1).
