Contract Update - Monday July 14th 2008
Strike Sanction
This week is all about the Strike Sanction meeting event on Wednesday. Even though some in the company are attempting to muddy the water with what they will or will not accept for an excuse, our position hasn’t changed. Every member on 1st and 2nd shift IS excused to attend this very important meeting event so long as they work a portion of their shift. Due to the fact every member has a different interpretation of what a portion is based on their respective need, we cannot be more detailed than that. We are not advocating you only work six (6) minutes and leave, we encourage you to work a portion of your shift. But you will need to determine what is necessary and reasonable for you to participate at this union meeting event, not management.
This meeting is not the final “Strike Vote”. We can only take the final strike vote once you have had time to review the company’s last, best and final offer and then you can decide whether or not it was good enough. This Strike Sanction meeting adds power to the negotiators at the bargaining table and is required under the IAM constitution in order to qualify to call a strike should it become necessary. You will have the final strike vote at the time you vote on the contract proposal itself.
We’ll see you all at the Strike Sanction Meeting event Wednesday.
Doors open at 8:30 am. Meeting starts at 10 am.
In Solidarity;
Your Union Negotiating Team
