Contract Update - Monday August 15th 2008
Message from your President
First of all, I want to thank you for participating in the negotiations process. Your resolve in the shops is having an impact. All of our members have come together in solidarity and are supporting each others issues. We must stay united to show The Boeing Company we mean business and are a force to be reckoned with.
The Boeing Company had an all managers meeting on Wednesday where the message the CEO and other Company leaders sent to managers was to encourage you to vote individually on your issues. Keep in mind this is a divide and conquer tactic used to have people vote independently and not look after each other. Although everyones issue independently are important, it is the sum of all the issues that matter most.
Targeting and encouraging our members to only vote on their one or two major issues is just another attempt to go after that 33 1/3% of the membership to back into a substandard contract.
We know you will be vigilant and cautious of the total impact of your vote, and this individual and independent tactic by the Company will not work.
Although it is still early and there may be some posturing going on by the Company, keep in mind that it is your labor which has made the Company its billions of dollars of profit and it is your labor, knowledge, skills and abilities which will continue to make this company successful.
However, the only thing we have as a union is the ability to withhold our labor, knowledge, skills and ability to get what is deserved. This is what Im hearing the members say loud and clear that they are willing to withhold their labor if necessary to get the Company to do the right thing. You did this last contract when The Boeing Company wanted to take away retiree medical from future hires.
I am so proud of our membership throughout this process and I am proud to speak on your behalf.
Factory Service
Our brothers and sisters in Factory Service have requested that I point out that when you create a mess or situation in their area of assignment as a way of sending the Company a message, the only thing you accomplish is added tasks to your brothers and sister who have to either fix it or clean it up, such as plumbers, electricians and factory service. So please refrain from creating unnecessary situations for our brothers and sisters. Our members in Factory Service are just as important as any member we represent. Factory Service has not been, nor will they be forgotten in these negotiations. When we say improvements in ALL areas of this contract, it means just that. I would appreciate your support on this request.

Online Surveys
We will be utilizing online surveys throughout the negotiations while in the hotel to ensure we have up-to-date information to help shape our arguments to the Company. These surveys may only talk about a few items at a time, but it is vital to ensuring we are voicing your thoughts.
When you receive an online survey from us, please respond with your true feelings on the issue as it will help understand how the membership at large feels about a specific topic. By sending these surveys to our members home email addresses, we can get real time response.
There are many more ways the negotiating team is gathering information. Shop floor meetings, comments sent in from the web and responses to our email updates. We read and listen to all of them. We analyze the results and frame the arguments based on your input.
We are listening to you and we WONT BACK DOWN ON YOUR ISSUES!
