33 Hours to go and counting down fast…

Contract Update September 4th 2008 3 p.m.

We understand many members are upset over the decision to extend the contract by 48 hours. We've heard your reaction since last night and listened over the last year. Finally, after your 87% vote, the Company hears you now. No matter how the company tries to spin it, they blinked. So we'll give them JUST 48 33 hours to bring forward not only a good offer, but an exceptional one that addresses all the issues you identified. If not, then so be it, we hit the bricks for as long as it takes. You finally have them where they should have been days ago, but Company arrogance fought it all the way to a vote and you said loud and clear, you will walk.

The Company had five days to invite the union back to the table after they presented their last, best and final offer on August 28th. Because of your solidarity, last night Boeing realized the strike was going to happen. Then, they suddenly wanted to talk.

The bottom line is this. If we go on strike, no matter how long or short it may be, the ultimate goal during any strike is to get back to the table and get the contract you told us you want. So the Company finally woke up and figured out they need you, but waited until the last possible minute. The Company is still playing their games with the process. Federal Mediator aside, the bottom line is simple: GET AN AGREEMENT YOU WANT AND DESERVE. The ONLY way we are going to get that is to STAY TOGETHER AND STAY STRONG.

It’s 33 hours…and counting down. This is your contract and your future. If we stick together now, you'll get everything you rightfully deserve. Become divided, and the Company wins.

You are the Fighting Machinists and must stay focused on the fight against The Boeing Company.

In solidarity
Your Union negotiating Team

Contract Update September 4th 12:21 am

48 Hours and Counting

YOU stood up to Boeing and said NO. We have always said we will meet any time and any place so we agreed to give Boeing 48 hours to meet your demands.

Eighty-seven percent voted to strike and that strong message sent the company to its knees. They understand that we will not give in. They see how strong you are, and now, in an abrupt turn-around, they said, let’s get back to the table. This has never happened in our history and is a testament to your solidarity.

Ultimately, the goal is to get a contract and the goal of a strike is bring the Company back to the table. Because of your resolve, Boeing immediately blinked and wants to come back to the table.

Throughout this process, it is the strong support of the membership that has given Union negotiators leverage at the bargaining table. That support is critical as we return to negotiations. We understand the anger you are feeling, and we need to do what is in the best interest of our members. Don’t let the Company use this to divide our solidarity.

The responsible decision is to meet with Boeing and see if they are now serious about meeting your demands. Your issues have not changed and the Union has not backed down. Your vote today only strengthened our position and forced the aerospace giant into rethinking their position. You should be proud of your vote and stand behind your negotiators.

Your leadership has agreed to give the company ONLY 48 hours at the table with a federal mediator. It is one last chance for Boeing to bring us an exceptional contract offer. We will not sell you out. If Boeing does not produce the offer you expect, the strike is still on.

Go to work tomorrow. Wear your Union colors. Continue to voice your issues and together we will get the contract we deserve!
