Strike Update September 24, 2008

Members continue to have strong resolve in their push to get Boeing back to the bargaining table to address our issues. This is the 19th day Boeing has not had any airplanes built and the cost in lost revenue continues to mount. Our fight is similar to ones facing other aerospace workers throughout the world. Click here to watch a video of workers at Airbus striking for job security.

Members continue to organize events at different locations. Below are a few of the upcoming barbecues:

Seattle - Every Thursday, Seattle N. Boeing Field Main Gate, members from CDC (Customer Delivery Center) and Flight Test host a barbecue at the Main Gate (C-39) from noon to 4 p.m.

Everett - Friday, September 26 - Everett Union Hall 10 a.m BBQ Bob (one of our members who works in the 40-56 bldg) organized a small BBQ to raise money for the IAM Hardship Fund. If you are in the area on the 26th, stop by and take part.

Renton has planned a "Hold the Line BBQ" near gate D-35 (7th & Logan across from LA Fitness) on Saturday, September 27th from 4 pm to 8 pm. All are welcome. Bring something to bbq and/or a side dish.

Strike Check Volunteers
More volunteers are needed to help with strike check distribution this Saturday at Green River Community College. Several more volunteers are needed for the Seattle Union Hall, as well. If you would like to volunteer to help with the checks at either of these locations, please call 1-800-763-1301, ext. 3319 (Monday-Friday) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Indicate whether you would like the morning shift (7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) or the afternoon shift (1 p.m. to 6 p.m.). Members who volunteer to help with strike checks for a shift will get credit for picket duty. If you are a Union Steward who still needs volunteer credit hours, you can receive either volunteer credit or picket duty credit (but not both).

Unemployment Questions
We have gotten many calls with questions on filing for unemployment. Once members have filed a claim, they will be sent a Labor Dispute Status Questionnaire, which they will need to fill out and return. Once members have filed a claim they will also receive a Monetary Determining Notice, which is a standard form letter that also calculates their potential UI benefits. This letter does not mean benefits were approved.

Below are some of the most frequently asked questions

Q. Do I have to search for work?
A. Boeing strikers are not required to seek work. They are waived from work search requirements because they are unemployed due to a strike (per WAC 192-180-005, RCW 50.20.010(1) & 50.20.230).

Q. Did your employer or Union tell you whether you should report to work?
A. Yes.
Q. If yes, what were you told and who told you?
A. The Union notified members of the vote to strike and that the strike would begin on September 6th at 12:01 a.m.

Q. What is your Employer's Business Name, Address and Phone?
A. The Boeing Company, PO Box 3707, Seattle, WA¬Ý98124, 206-655-1131

Q. What can I expect?
A. Members should be aware that their claim will be rejected and they will need to file an appeal during the strike. After all appeals are filed they will be sent to an Administrative Judge who will make the determination whether or not members qualify for benefits.

In Solidarity,
Your Union Leadership
