SEATTLE, WA - Formal negotiations between the Machinists Union and The Boeing Company opened today, as the Union presented a comprehensive proposal that reflected the issues identified by Union members. The contract opener was held a month earlier than previous negotiations in an attempt to provide both sides more time to resolve the complex issues.
District 751 President Tom Wroblewski noted, We are cautiously optimistic as we enter this round of bargaining. We are in the strongest bargaining position we have had in years. By any measure, Boeing is one of the most successful companies in the world sales, profits, backlogs and our members are a huge part of that.
It hasnt been easy for our members during the last two contract negotiations. After the 9/11 attacks, our members had to face a Company determined to take away hard-fought benefits and contractual rights. I am proud of our members who demanded fairness during these difficult times.

The Local A Election Committee consisting of Chris Isaacson, Margie Pernell and Jacqueline Vaden received approval (from the District Council) for the District to pay lost time and expenses to send the 10th positioned Grand Lodge Convention delegate from the 5/1/08 Local Lodge 751-A election to the Grand Lodge convention. The Mailroom, instead of using the same ballot as the absentee ballot, used a ballot that had two extra names in the Grand Lodge Convention portion of the ballot who had been disqualified because they did not sign their nomination acceptance cards. Sending the 10th delegate would alleviate holding a revote on this section only. Upon receiving District Council approval, the Election Committee has certified the Grand Lodge Delegate portion of the ballot. The rest of the ballot had already been certified and was not an issue. In talking to reporters, Boeing chief negotiator Doug Kight laid-out a proposal for pension benefits to replace the Boeing pension plan for all new hires with a 401(k) plan supplemented by a company contribution.
District 751 President Tom Wroblewski, who will lead the negotiations which begin on May 9th, was outraged at the idea. "This proposal is unacceptable! Past, present, future, it doesnıt matter. We fight for ALL our members.
Weıre fighting for the unborn," Wroblewski declared. "Our members didnıt fall for it in 2005. They wonıt fall for it this time."
If you are outraged, like District President Tom Wroblewski, at this proposal, tell your manager - Itıs our time this time!
