60-Day Extension Doesn't Change The Facts

Statement from IAM District 751 Tom Wroblewski, in response to the Pentagon’s announcement it’s willing to give EADS a 60-day extension to submit a bid for the U.S. Air Force’s KC-X tanker project:

"The Pentagon decision is disappointing and unfortunate, but in the end, it doesn't change the facts.

The Boeing 767 tanker is the only tanker on the table that meets the Air Force's specifications, the Boeing factories in Everett and Wichita are the only American tanker-manufacturing facilities in existence today, and our skilled and experienced Machinists Union members are the only jet builders with the skills and experience to start work tomorrow assembling these essential aircraft, just like their union brothers and sisters did a half-century ago with the KC-135.

The delay doesn't change the fact that the Boeing tanker is the right tanker. It just means that our men and women in uniform will have to wait 60 days longer to get them. For their sake, let's hope this is the last delay -- they've had to wait far too long as it is."
