Women's Committee Report - February 2007

Supporters of the American Heart Association's "GO Red for Women" have declared Friday, February 2nd as National Wear Red DaySM. This is the day men and women are encouraged to wear something red to show support for the Heart Associations annual campaign to call attention to the risks of heart disease and stroke among women.

And, if you look towards the Seattle Center and see red for the next month, your eyes are not deceiving you. The landmark arches of the Pacific Science Center will be illuminated red at night for the entire month of February to support the Go Red for Women campaign. More than 200 buildings around our nation are supposed to light up red as part of this program developed by the American Heart Association.

Taking care of your heart is more important than you might know. Too few people realize that heart disease is the number one killer of American women-and of men. But the good news is that heart disease can largely be prevented. Go Red for Women empowers women with the knowledge and tools they need to take positive action to reduce their risks of heart disease and stroke and to protect their health. We encourage everyone to visit the goredforwomen.org web site or call 1-888-MY-HEART for more information about your go red health check.

So, everyone (men too!) can support the fight against heart disease in women by wearing red on February 2, 2007 - National Wear Red DaySM. It's a simple, powerful way to raise awareness of heart disease and stroke. Thank you!
