Women's Committee Report July 2006

The final fundraising results for our 2006 Flight for Sight Fun Run were announced last week when the entire Women's Committee presented a check for $13,000.00 to Mark Blondin at the District Council Meeting. This would never have been possible without the hard work of a lot of volunteers! All the names of those who helped make our Fun Run a great success are on the poster in the Seattle Union Hall, along with a listing in our Aero Mechanic. Thanks again for all your help!

And, on another note, we want to help spread the word about this year's Ask A Working Woman survey sponsored by the AFL-CIO and Working America. It is available to fill out only on their website. We also plan to send an e-mail with that link to all stewards so it can be forwarded to shop members.

This Labor Day, the tens of thousands of responses to this survey will be delivered to every member of Congress and state and local officials around the country.
During the 2004 presidential election, thousands of working women spoke out through the survey about their priorities: affordable health care, good jobs with benefits and control over our work hours.

This November, every member of Congress is up for reelection. Let's make sure that the candidates hear what matters to us as working women. So, please help us spread the word by urging all the working women you know to fill out the survey. Again, click here to access the Ask A Working Woman survey.

The Orange County Quilters Guild in California created a beautiful quilt for Guide Dogs of America's 50th Anniversary last year. The quilt was sent here for our Women's Committee to help raise more money for GDA. We are selling raffle tickets for this dog-themed quilt for $1.00 each and the drawing will be held at the October 24th District Council this fall. Buy a ticket now for a chance to win this piece of quilters art!
