Women's Committee Report - June 2004
On behalf of the Women's Committee, Co-Chairs Sue Palmer and Gloria Millsaps are very proud to announce that the third annual "Flight for Sight" Fun Run held on Saturday, May 22nd (in the pouring down rain) raised over $12,000 for Guide Dogs of America compared with "only" $9,500 last year. This makes the "Flight for Sight" the most successful fundraiser in the District so far. Also to our surprise this year, more runners, joggers and walkers even showed up to participate in the rain. This fundraiser was so successful because the volunteers showed up! 75 to be exact made the choice that rainy Saturday morning to come and help out rather than to stay home inside where it was dry. The names of those dedicated members from all four Locals are on the wall on a poster. We thank them very much for their efforts that day. However, there were two other volunteers that helped the Women's Committee in organizing the event and really did a lot of work prior to and on the day of the event. They are Jason Redrup and Garth Luark. Thank you Jason and Garth!
Also worth noting are the top fundraisers which helped make the "Flight For Sight" so successful. They are:
1. Ray Baumgardner raised $2,054
2. Linda Lanham raised $710
3. Lois Holton raised $533
Thanks again to all the members, Stewards, Staff and Business Reps who donated either their money and/or time to this worthwhile cause! Also, check out this month's Aeromechanic for the article and pictures of the fun run.
