  • Machinists Custom Choices Offer Alternative Long Term Care
    Posted On: Sep 13, 2021

As you may have heard a mandatory Long-Term Care (LTC) Insurance funded through a payroll tax is coming to workers in Washington. While IAM 751 members working at Boeing are excluded from the state plan and payroll tax until our contract is renegotiated in 2024, employees can opt out of the WA Cares Fund ONLY if they secure their own private long-term care insurance by Nov. 1, 2021, and then apply for and receive an exemption by Dec. 31, 2022.

For IAM members working at other employers, the payroll tax can begin as early as Jan. 1, 2022 (if your contract has been renegotiated since 2017) and again, employees can opt out of the WA Cards Fund ONLY if they secure their own private long-term care insurance by Nov. 1, 2021

In an effort to give IAM members options, Machinists Custom Choices is offering a Long-Term Care Alternative with open enrollment running now through Sept. 29th. This is a personal choice and only you can do the research and decide what is the best option for you.

Learn more about this option by visiting: www.ebsworksite.com/wa-ltc
If you have questions, call 1-877-410-7314.

Keep in mind once you are approved for exemption from the state plan, you are permanently ineligible for benefits from the WA Cares Fund. Also if you decide to go with the state plan, you will not be subject to the payroll tax until after our next contract is ratified.

You can learn more about the Washington Cares Fund and state program by visiting: http://www.wacaresfund.wa.gov/

Whether to purchase alternate long-term care or go with the state plan payroll tax is a personal decision each member will need to research to decide what is best for your own situation. Again in order to be exempted from the state payroll tax and state plan, you must have a long-term care policy in place prior to November 1, 2021.

Below are links to more information on the Machinists Custom Choices option that will be receiving to your home email as well. Note: For IAM 751 members working at Boeing this long-term care alternative can be payroll deducted.
