Machinists,
After a long process, the Event Review Committee (ERC) is now in place and operating well, an important step forward for our membership and the work we do every day. This joint effort between IAM 751 and Boeing brings our members directly into the review and investigation process, with IAM 751 representatives actively involved in cases related to safety, quality, and compliance from the design or manufacturing work areas or processes within IAM 751's jurisdiction.
This matters because it gives our members something others at Boeing already have: the ability to speak up without fear of corrective action. Through the Speak Up program and the ERC, members can self-report concerns regarding their own mistakes or issues and, in most cases, be protected from disciplinary action. That protection is critical. It reflects a system focused on fixing problems, not punishing people, and puts us more in line with programs like the FAA's Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), which has long encouraged reporting to improve safety across the industry.
The goal is simple. When members can report concerns without fear of corrective action, it leads to better outcomes for everyone. With IAM 751 at the table, our members have a direct voice in identifying issues and shaping the solutions.
The program has already been in place for several months and is making a difference, with real issues being addressed and corrected. Our members deserve both a voice and protection when it comes to doing the job right, and this is a step in the right direction. You can read the full letter and learn more below.
In Solidarity,
IAM District 751
