Program Director - Boeing Mentorship

The Machinists Institute, a 501c3 nonprofit was created by the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers District 751 to fill a vital role for training and apprenticeship programs for the community. MI provides world class training to current and future aerospace, automotive and manufacturing workers. The Institute focuses on providing living-wage career opportunities through education and training across the state.

The Boeing Mentorships program, led by MI, serves the needs of both IAM members, and the Boeing company by recruiting and placing subject matter experts on site at Boeing locations throughout the Puget Sound region. These mentors provide guidance and support to new hires as they begin their work within a given area or Boeing program. The Director provides the strategic direction of the program; from senior level coordination with Boeing representatives and the IAM mentors to the logistical management of the program; ensuring operational objectives are met.

Reports to: Boeing Program Director

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide management of the Boeing Mentorship Program in conjunction with Machinists Institute and Boeing contract obligations
  • Recruit, hire and manage a team of 10 + mentors at multiple Boeing locations throughout the Puget Sound region
  • Facilitate or manage facilitation of new mentor training, utilizing Mentorship Matters training system
  • Collect and analyze data for program goals in retention, new hire job satisfaction and new hire job performance among other metrics
  • Provide ongoing assessment of program design; providing regular reporting to leadership on program effectiveness along with recommendations for improvement
  • Establish and maintain processes and procedures for effective mentor selection, onboarding and performance
  • Maintain mentor and site schedules to ensure operational targets are met; optimizing the number of mentors for each location
  • Manage project budget; tracking hours and cost allocation for the program
  • Provide administrative support to Mentors in regard to Boeing site safety and badging requirements
  • Provide guidance and support to mentors; holding regular check-in meetings
  • Analyze and interpret performance and quality data to identify and mitigate the impact of changes on the production system. (e.g. CMES, CORRS, PAS, EPES, TMC)
  • Provide feedback on assessment results and identify opportunities for improvement and potential areas of risk
  • Provide where necessary program/job specific, advanced skills training- supporting training and coaching solutions to improve employee performance

Required Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Boeing manufacturing job codes and related duties
  • Knowledge of Boeing job hiring process and job readiness programs
  • Be able to manage multiple personnel at multiple job site locations simultaneously
  • Have exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Be adaptable and able to adjust priorities quickly and effectively
  • Provide exceptional customer service to the Boeing mentorship sponsors
  • Ability to provide training/orientation in one-on-one, online and group formats
  • Understand data collection methods and how to report findings related to metrics of job performance and retention
  • Ability to manage a budget and adjust project parameters to suit financial requirements
  • Be available for regular regional daily travel
